US President Donald Trump has said he is close to deciding whether to launch a “massive attack” against Iran, on a scale larger than any strikes already witnessed during the months-long conflict with Tehran.
Speaking to the Axios news site, Trump said: “I am considering a massive attack. Bigger than ever before. I am close to making a decision. We are all set for it.” The comments signal a potential escalation beyond the strikes seen so far in the conflict.
According to the Guardian, Trump’s remarks followed a series of developments in the region, including oil prices rising past $100 a barrel again and Houthi strikes on Saudi tankers in the Red Sea.
Al Jazeera reported that the US president’s threat came after another day of Iranian attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, describing Tehran as lashing out across the Gulf.
