Russia’s jet-powered drones have overwhelmed Ukraine’s defences, killing dozens of people, according to a report by Al Jazeera published on September 4, 2026.
The outlet reported that Ukrainian civilians are suffering from the air attacks, underscoring the continued toll of aerial bombardment on the country’s population.
At the same time, Al Jazeera noted that Russian ground forces are struggling to advance, pointing to a contrast between Moscow’s air campaign and the state of its offensive operations on the ground.
The report highlights the mismatch between the impact of Russia’s drone and air attacks on civilian areas and the limited progress its troops have made on the battlefield.
As the aerial threat grows, the strain on Ukraine’s air defences appears to be a central factor in the mounting civilian casualties described in the report.
