The two envoys were due to hold talks with Russia before travelling on to Ukraine on Sunday, the BBC said, indicating a shuttle-style effort to engage both sides in the negotiations.
Later reporting from the BBC said the envoys met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, underscoring the seniority of the discussions taking place.
